ST GILGEN - Phil & Jill

As I sit here and type this post the church bells are ringing out. It is 8pm and they sound first with a deep sound and repeat with a shallower one. There is something about 'bells' they get into your skin and seem to combine the whole village. It is such an easy, peaceful and scenic village to be in. We have just relaxed and soaked up the ambience. We are lucky to be here for four days and really got to know the place and more importantly for Phil to sit around as he has experienced some very nasty pain here. We can't work out why as we haven't done anything out of the ordinary or strenuous. His on-going issues certainly have us tricked. We are lucky for this last spell we are staying long periods in one place and just being here is magical, particularly today in glorious weather. Phil says much better than being in cold Melbourne.

The best way to remember what this village is all about is a series of photos. It is the sort of place you want to shoot all the time.

The famous Mozart people on the wall of Mozart's grandfather's house, which is now a museum -

The war memorial to men from this village who lost their lives in WWI and WWII -

The local wool shop. Wool was merino from Austrian sheep, English wool, German wool and Alpaca from Peru. All the raw wool is spun and dyed in a factory in Salzburg the owner of the shop told me. 50g of the merino was 6 euros 90 - probably similar price for good quality wool in Australia. China and India have not made it into the Austrian market as yet.

For a tiny village it has had so much to offer. Thank you St Gilgen for being there. We loved coming.
