Having spent nearly half a day at the Pegasus Bridge we thought we were due for a coffee and wandered over the bridge to the Gondree cafe, which had been in the area 75 years ago. In fact the Frenchman who owned the coffee 75 years ago took in British parachuters who had landed off course and took many hours to try to get back to where their original pick points were. The pilots faced being captured by the Germans and also struggling with the marshy area which made the going very tough. The owner of the cafe risked his and his family's lives doing what he did.

Anyway to get back to the present.....on crossing the bridge Phil encountered 2 cyclists. Then I thought he was going to perish as we came upon the Eurovelo 4 bike path, part of the Franchette route from the Atlantic coast to Rochelle. The path said 10kms to Caen and goes passed the door of our apartment. Poor Phil was suffering from cycling FOMO. To make it worse the cafe was packed with lots of cyclists in their lyrca, having their coffee boost before they cycled off in the sunshine. Meanwhile we were stuck waiting for the next bus at 5.50pm another hour away.....so once again a taxi!! This time it had to come from Ouistrehan about 20 minutes away so when it came it already had 20 euros on the bill. Poor Phil.....not happy Jan!!
