SOUND OF MUSIC IN THE RAIN - Phil & Jill

Well we might be in 'Sound of Music' country but it is raining. For 2 days it has been on and off raining. Not cold but constant showers. We have been spoilt with the pure sunshine up to now and the gloomy skies have made Salzburg seem grey and somewhat uninviting. We are staying a little way out of the old town as well as it was essential that we were near the train station coming off the long journey and for our forward plans.

However we are enjoying a pull up rest which is easier to do.when the weather is not so good. Salzburg is divided by the Salzach River, very fast flowing from the mountains into the Inn River and then to the Danube It has the chalky aquamarine colour of a mountain flowing river. Wide bike paths tree line along either side. The sound of clip clop is very romantic of the horse drawn carriages to take tourists around. On the river you can take a ride in a modern duck - a glass covered boat which turns into a cart on land. They call rhe biat the Amaedus and the experience an Aquamarine Splash. (It is all in the rhetoric) The skipper has to be very skilled when turning the boat against the current to come into the quay. The boat takes a quick and wide circle. It is impressive to watch.
