Around midnight a huge electrical thunderstorm came on as a result of the excessive heat yesterday. Thunder boomed, echoing around the valley. Lightning lit up the village like it was day and down came the rain. I got up to close the window and look out. The flags on the Rathuis building were blowing strongly.
When we woke in the morning it was gently but steadily raining. I felt sorry for the first load of Chinese tourists who came in as usual around 9am as they were seeing this beautiful little town in the rain which looked so different from the day before. The cloud was low and cluttering the church spire and the surrounding mountains.

We also had a brief chat with another guest arriving here with her son. Katherina was from Romania and her son was going to attend the International school here. During the summer it offers camps and the boy was going to attend for two weeks. His aim was to improve his water sports, do some mountain bike riding and meet some other students. His mother said they were thinking of sending him for two years with the downside being the cold weather for such a long period of the year. Always amazing to me the opportunities that are available for yoing children, particularly because of the advantages our own children gained from the American International school in Jakarta. We saw a group of the International school students coming back from an excursion and we were happy to see our boy already happily chatting with some other boys of similar age.
So the rain gave us a chance to rest today with only me doing the 10 minute walk up to the Hollweger corner and buying some provisions at the Spar supermarket. I also visited the Information Centre and gathered some useful local material.
A good 'chill out' day. Sometimes it feels good just to be lazy on a rainy day.
